offsets by RoF systems; the focus is on the
initialization of the Capil_R platform, a project
that Institut Télécom will be in charge of.
A convergence and/or federation of simulation
software and models developed by various
partners will be one of the first required stages
(Masters 2009 internship).
Radar
Given the potential market and the strong
competition among companies, the evolution of
performance and the integration of new functions
have to be reliable, so it is necessary to predict the
behaviour of the product. These "Radar" projects
highlight the expertise of the microwave
department in system modelling and technological
implementation (integration and interconnection).
1. High-end Automobile
The simulation platform developed as part of the
"77-GHz long-range Radar" project is currently
being finalized. This platform made it possible,
through LNA and I and Q demodulation, to propose
and validate the new architecture whose prototype
is going to be developed by the company
Autocruise. New wave forms are also being
studied in order to improve both radar
performance and the incorporation of a new
scanning antenna architecture (which is
incidentally being studied in the project).
2. PIRANA
The PIRANA project, which belongs to the Sea
research cluster, has the goal of developing
architectures and highly-integrated, low-cost
radar technologies, for the field of maritime
surveillance. The front-end radar developed in the
X band brings together radiation functionalities,
analog and digital emission/receiving functions,
and processing functions. The main goals of the
microwave department are integrating active RF
modules and studying interconnections.
In 2008, the main result of this project was three
patents in partnership with Thales Brest, one of
which has so far been submitted.
Use and service experimentation
(Imagin’Lab)
The Images and Networks research cluster
associated with Telecom Bretagne proposes the
creation and development of an open reference
platform in Europe for testing integration,
interoperability, experimentation and usage of
innovative fixed and mobile network services and
technologies. This cluster debuted in 2008.
The first part (2009) will be concerned with public
consultation (invitation to tender) then the choice of
a provider.
Real time control for satellite links
(SatNex 2)
The theme of this Network of Excellence is satellite
communications. The network addresses issues
linked to modulation, coding and communication
protocols for telecommunication and navigation
services. The network is composed of 23 institutes
across Europe.
For Telecom Bretagne and the Institut Telecom,
SatNex is a unique opportunity to maintain the
network of relations in the small academic
community of space communications. Since the
beginning of the network, the team has published
8 papers (6 in conference proceedings, 2 in
journals) and overseen one doctoral thesis (Carlos
Giraldo Rodriguez) through SatNex. We have also
submitted proposals through the FP6 and FP7
calls and through collaborations underway with
ETSI (the European Telecommunications
Standards Institute).
Finally, SatNex II also encourages scientific
mobility, thanks to its program that supports
short- and long-term personnel exchanges.
