must be pointed out. First of all, the relative
geometry between the two acquisitions is not
known in our case and will have to be deduced
from the two images. Secondly, in the case of a
sonar image, the unknown value associated with
each pixel is the elevation angle of the physical
point being observed, because the azimuth angle
and the distance to the scene come from the
acquisition mode geometry. Crossing partial
information coming from two sonar images
implies computing geometrical places that
correspond to 3D-ribbons and not simple rays
intersection. The initial results coming from the
simulation make it possible for objects whose
salient points have already been selected on two
different paired images to go back up to the
relative position of the carrying vehicle for both
acquisitions, as well as the geometry of the
objects in question. The robustness of the
method in terms of noise still needs to be
investigated, along with the elevated slant, with
reconstructed 3D coordinates.
4. Design of a modular processing chain
Various studies carried out in the past few years,
as well as numerous associated algorithms, can
only be re-used with difficulties because the
works are carried out by several people and often
people who are here temporarily (doctoral
students). The aim of this development, which
benefits from Carnot financing, is to be able to
take advantage of the work across time by
integrating all these algorithms as modules,
assuming they clearly define their input/output
signature and respects some global guidelines
about their software interfaces. Indeed, the
proposed processing chain framework allows
these modules to be connected for data and
partial results exchanges in order to fulfill a
more complex task. Recently, a person with a
short-term contract was recruited on the topic
for a period of 12 months, until November 2009.
