rising above the wavy horizon.
The sea laps our feet. In the
morning the boats will push off
their nets thrown, fish caught
and the cycle begins again.
The moon engraves our three faces
looking eastward on this final night.

The three of us— Sakhi, Scintl and I—
have driven up for my father’s funeral.
Will my relatives be as hospitable
We sit in the second pew,
a row of women, I turn my head and count,
