Clinical practice guidelines
To ensure consistency of women’s clinical care, evidenced-based clinical guidelines should
be the same across services. Queensland Health has a program to develop statewide clinical
guidelines, led by the Queensland Maternity and Neonatal Clinical Guidelines Steering
Committee. Guidelines are available to download from: www.health.qld.gov.au/cpic/
resources/mat_guidelines.asp
Midwives should be familiar with relevant clinical guidelines.
If local guidelines are required due to unavailability of state or national guidelines, development
processes should be multidisciplinary, include continuity of care midwives and consumers
and have a process for regular review and be updated as new evidence becomes available.
