Coldbrook Teen Ready
to Run for Title of
Miss Teen Canada
Chantal Pitcher
Chantal Pitcher is chasing a dream, but she needs your
help to make it come true.
The 16-year-old Coldbrook resident is a Grade 11 student at
Central Kings High School in Cambridge, but her ambitions
extend far beyond her rural Nova Scotia roots.
If the world’s a stage, there’s no question Chantal wants
to stand front and centre. She loves to sing and act, and
aspires to be a film director one day. She has been chosen
to represent Nova Scotia in the Miss Teen Canada Globe
competition this August in Toronto and believes that the
experience will give her some of the tools necessary to
achieve her current goals and establish a path to success
later on. She would like to sing and act professionally and
has her eye on the Toronto Film School, where she could
further develop her interests into a career as a performer and director.
The pretty blonde has always enjoyed being in the spotlight. She competed as
a singer in County Fair Idol at age nine and participated in Apple Blossom Idol for
three years. She had a role recently in her school’s production of The Last Resort
and says she has made and edited a movie called Wicca. She has worked with
CentreStage Theatre in Kentville and attended Ross Creek Centre for the Arts
near Canning to hone her craft.
Recruited by Miss Canada Globe Petite
She was recruited by the reigning Miss Canada Globe Petite 2011 and fellow
Coldbrook native Victoria Grant, who suggested to Chantal that she had what it
takes to represent Nova Scotia at this year’s Teen event.
“Victoria indicated her interest and approached me,” Chantal says. “She told
me I had so much potential” and encouraged her to apply. “This is actually
my third time to be offered this opportunity. The first two times I passed it up
because of the money, but the third time’s the charm,” she says confidently. “It
can help with college fees and open doors, and it would help put me on the
path of making my dreams happen. It would bring me one step closer.”
The sticking point right now is fundraising. Sponsorship fees and other
expenses will exceed $4,000 and she has had difficulty generating any kind of
support in a tight economy where every penny counts.
She has knocked on doors without much success and even went so far as to
post an ad on Kijiji soliciting donations. She says in the ad, “I have volunteered at
school and have done fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart and Alzheimer’s. I am
passionate about helping others less fortunate than myself and about giving back
to our communities.” She concludes, “I am looking for sponsors to help me on
this journey of a lifetime.” As of April 10, 156 people had viewed the ad.
