The first two paragraphs below in bold italics is where we left off last issue.
You asked for it... and it’s back!
We thought we would bring you back up to speed on the most popular soap in the
Valley. Just in case you missed the last installment, here it is again. Look forward in the
next issue to find out what Debbie and John will be up to...It’ll knock your socks off!
Here’s where we left off in
our last issue
My goodness, she looks beautiful. She swung
the door open gently and said, “Why don’t you
come in for a few minutes before we go and see
you Mom. She took my hand and walked me
into the living room, turned and looked at me
and said, “What was it you wanted to talk to
me about”
I took a big deep breath and said, “well, I
know we have only known each other again for
a little while but I....
….feel as if we’ve been together for much
longer. After all we have all those High School
years in common don’t we - that’s a lot more
then I’ve had in common with any other gals
I’ve known in recent years.”
“You’re right”, she said, “Those High School
Years were really something – and yeah; tell you
a secret – I did always have a little crush on you!”
She blushed a bit as she spoke. I was in heaven.
“Well”, I said, “Would you like to grab a bite
to eat before we go see mom To tell you the
truth she’s still pretty tired since her fall, so I
think she’s appreciate a visit more after she’s
rested up”
“Great idea”, said Debbie, “Remember we
were going to go to that sushi place – Oh! And I
still want to talk to you about that article on my
famous brother!”
As we drove along to New Minas I was thrilled
just to be with her. Things were finally coming
together. Maybe not quite as exciting as our”
dream date” at the Old Orchard Inn, but give
it time!
We stopped for a second at The Gold People,
so that I could give them mom’s old gold. True
to their ad we got a fair deal, and I happily put
the proceeds aside for mum. Good timing, as
with her injury a little spare cash was going to
be very handy.
I had taken a moment to call Merry Maids
earlier to help her out with the housework for a
few weeks, and while I wouldn’t mind paying,
a knew that Mom would much rather foot the
bill herself.
“Actually”, she said, “Are you really set on
sushi”
“Well not really”, I answered, “Where would
you rather go”
“How about The Port – that Gastro Pub in
Port Williams I’ve been dying to try it out, but
I didn’t want to go alone.”
“Well onward to the Port it is!” I smiled. I
was actually a bit relieved – sushi isn’t really my
thing, but I wanted to make Debbie happy. She
really did look lovely. Almost as if she’d been
down south on holiday…..
“You sure have a great tan for this time of
year”, I said. “Have you gone south recently”
“No”, she said, “I wish – I don’t have the
time or money to get away like that! But I do
take a little mini vacation every time I go to The
Golden Tan. It’s so handy; they’re open every
day so I just fit it in whenever it’s convenient
for me!
“Well it sure makes you look great!” I said.
“Mind if I come with you some time”
“Well, I’d be happy to do that – but we’d
have our own tanning bed you know!” she
laughed.
“Oh of course, of course”, Geez I hope I
wasn’t flirting too much! It was hard not to
though now that we were finally alone together.
Soon we reached the restaurant, and true to
what Debbie had heard the food at The Port
was superb! I will be going back there for sure.
Debbie ordered the Digby Scallop & Lobster
Linguini, while I chose The “454” Flyer, a tasty
pound of chicken wings in sauce. We shared a
delicious Valley Harvest Salad, and washed it
down with local beer. “Wow”, Debbie said as
we walked to the car. “What a beautiful meal
that was, thank-you so much for the invitation.”
“My pleasure”, I said, “And moms too – I just
know she’s going to love the doggie bag we’re
bringing her!”
“She will”, Debbie agreed, “I always feel kind
of silly asking for those, but it would have been
a sin to waste our extra food.”
“Amen to that”, I agreed; “Now we’d best
get home – I know Mom is just dying to see
you again!”
Tune in next month to find out where this is
all going! Remember you can write the next 500
words!
