prospect, Mickey Mantle took the torch
from Joe DiMaggio, who mentored the
19-year-old rookie during the 1951
campaign, the Hall of Fame pairing’s
lone season together. Immediately
sought by the paparazzi, the two were
captured in this April 30, 1951 Life
magazine full-page black-and-white
photo, which both have decorated with
(“10”) strength scriptings. Mantle has
inscribed “No. 7 1951” to accent his

ad in this April 13, 1962
issue of Life magazine. For
good measure, a tab with #5 Mantle and #6 Maris on opposite sides is included.
Adding appeal, the ad and tab are autographed by their Hall of Fame subjects. On the
full-page ad, southpaw Whitey Ford has signed in blue marker (“9” strength) and
inscribed “HOF 74 – Cy Young ’61.” Mickey Mantle has signed the tab (just to the
