591. July 4,
1919
Dempsey vs.
Willard
Heavyweight
Title Full
Ticket - PSA
4
Idle for more than
three full years after his successful Heavyweight Title defense in 1916, Jess Willard
proved no match for Jack Dempsey in their July 4, 1919 championship bout. In
arguably the worst beating in Sweet Science annals, Dempsey floored the champion
seven times in the first round alone and took his title when Willard could not answer
the bell for Round 4. Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA, this full ticket was issued by the
Toledo Athletic club for admission to that infamous battle. Gorgeous colors and strong
perforations appeal on this pugilism prize.
Opening Bid $150.00
593. Marciano,
Walcott Signed
Photos and 1953
Heavyweight Fight
Ticket
The principals of the May 15,
1953 Heavyweight title bout,
Rocky Marciano and Jersey
Joe Walcott have autographed
their likenesses in this hardhitting
trio of pugilism souvenirs.
Marciano has signed
an 8x10 advertising postcard
in blue ballpoint (“9-10”
strength, personalized; full JSA); while Walcott has signed an 8x10 color photo in
blue marker (“10” strength; JSA sticker). Also included is a full ticket (EX-MT) from
the above-mentioned bout, the first of Marciano’s six successful title defenses.
Opening Bid $250.00
592. July 2,
1921
Dempsey vs.
Carpentier
PSA
Authentic
Full Ticket -
Lone Graded
Example
A French ally fighter pilot in World War I, Georges Carpentier was just another opponent
to Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey, who disposed of the overseas challenger
in the fourth round of the July 2, 1921 title bout at New Jersey’s Boyle’s Thirty
Acres at the Montgomery Oval. Encapsulated and assessed “Authentic” by PSA, this
full ticket was issued for that Tex Rickard promoted bout. While a series of creases
accounts for the technical grade, colors remain vibrant and perforations strong. This is
the lone graded specimen.
Opening Bid $200.00
