Signed
Government
Postcard - Full
JSA
Long since retired
from an unparalleled
hitting career, Ty Cobb
had only money to
count (thanks to wise
investments in Coca-
Cola and General
Motors) and epic battles over which to reminisce. During his retirement, Cobb’s seldom
seen “softer side” emerged as he complied with a request and signed this government
postcard. Postmarked “MENLO PARK, CALIF. JUL 6 1956,” the laminated correspondence
piece showcases Cobb’s blue ballpoint autograph, which projects (“9-
10”) strength and is accented by his customary paraph. Full photo LOA from JSA.
Following a career
that saw him launch
534 home runs,
Jimmie Foxx
returned to the
game he once
defined (albeit at
different levels).
Following a stint managing the AAGPBL’s Fort Wayne Daisies, Foxx coached the
University of Miami baseball team in 1956 and 1957. It was in that endeavor that he
complied with an autograph request on this government postcard. Postmarked “1956 –
Miami,” the since-laminated piece is signed by Foxx in black ink. The scripting shows
(“6”) strength and is highlighted by the trademark “xx.” Full photo LOA from JSA.
Hornsby Signed
Government
Postcard - Full
JSA
With a competitive desire
that, more often than not,
hindered relations with
teammates, Rogers
Hornsby never wavered
in his outspoken ways.
The Hornsby penning on
this government postcard mirrors the Hall of Famer’s unyielding demeanor.
Postmarked “JUN 25 1956,” the since-laminated card is signed by Hornsby in green
ink and inscribed “1956.” The sizable signature shows (“9”) strength. Between mentoring
most courageous figure,
Jackie Robinson was, in
