Handwritten
Signed
Letter With
Excellent
Baseball
Content -
Full JSA
Composed by former
National
League President Nicholas Young on U.S. Treasury
Department letterhead, this 1885 correspondence piece
lends considerable credence to assertions of both
Young’s tendency to cater to owners’ demands and the
respect reserved for former umpire Bob Ferguson.
Addressed to Detroit owner Joseph Marsh, the handwritten
letter confirms alternate umpiring arrangements
for upcoming Wolverines games. Young’s penmanship
is flawless and his partially trimmed signature projects
incredible strength. Full photo LOA from JSA. More on
known that Ty
Cobb was an expert
at studying opposing
pitchers from
the batter’s box,
there is also ample
documentation
regarding how well
he handled his finances. Amassing millions via shrewd
was meticulous with his earnings. This is evidenced in
a letter handwritten and signed by Cobb. Dated
“5/23/57” on Cobb’s personal stationery, the correspondence
has financial content and is signed by the Hall of
famer (“8” strength) at the conclusion. Full photo LOA
