C ORPORATE S ERVICES<br />
Outcome 5: Opportunities for people with disabilities to<br />
participate in public consultations, grievance mechanisms<br />
and decision-making processes are provided<br />
* New Universal Access Comment forms are now available.<br />
These have been mailed to residents known to the Town to<br />
have a disability and are located in different locations<br />
throughout the Town. The comment forms provide residents,<br />
carers and users with the opportunity to provide feedback<br />
relating to disability issues within the Town.<br />
* Participation in public consultations is available in alternative<br />
formats. For example people are able to respond via email or<br />
contact the relevant <strong>of</strong>ficer if assistance is required.<br />
* Specific forums have been held for people with disabilities<br />
and their carers to voice their concerns and raise awareness<br />
<strong>of</strong> the issues which they face as apart <strong>of</strong> the updating the<br />
Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.<br />
Outcome 6: Provision <strong>of</strong> services which meet the specific<br />
needs <strong>of</strong> people with disabilities<br />
* The Town hosted its second successful Carers Recognition<br />
Lunch in May <strong>2005</strong>, which was attended by 72 people. * DSO<br />
has created a user-friendly directory <strong>of</strong> services for people<br />
with disabilities and carers living within the Town. The<br />
directory includes specific and general agency contact details,<br />
as well as websites where services are available online.<br />
Outcome 7: Provision <strong>of</strong> welfare advice and support to<br />
people with disabilities and their family/carers<br />
* The Town’s DSO <strong>of</strong>fers individual support to residents looking<br />
for services and also advocates within Council on service<br />
developments as required.<br />
* Disability services are promoted in the Town’s quarterly<br />
newsletter and in the local media when appropriate.<br />
* The DSO continues to develop partnerships with local<br />
agencies, ensuring a beneficial outcome to the community.<br />
* Welfare support and referral, based on eligibility, is provided<br />
to individuals.<br />
* People with disabilities benefit from the Town’s Community<br />
and Welfare Donations Scheme, which gives financial<br />
assistance to groups and organisations providing community<br />
and welfare services to the Town’s residents.<br />
* Ad hoc donations to disability groups, organisations and<br />
individuals with a disability were provided as appropriate.<br />
* A Liberty Swing is now in Hyde Park and assists children with<br />
disabilities that are wheelchair users to enjoy the park.<br />
* The Universal Access Advisory group meets as required to<br />
assist with the consultation and support given to people with<br />
disabilities within the Town.<br />
