Population Estimates<br />
The following are <strong>the</strong> population estimates for both households and individual Jews in <strong>the</strong> <strong>East</strong><br />
<strong>Bay</strong>. These estimates are derived from this demographic study <strong>of</strong> Jews in <strong>the</strong> <strong>East</strong> <strong>Bay</strong>, as well<br />
as a sample <strong>of</strong> all adults ages 18 and up in <strong>the</strong> <strong>East</strong> <strong>Bay</strong>. 4<br />
The full dataset <strong>of</strong> Jews and non-Jews was used in developing <strong>the</strong>se estimates. The data for<br />
respondents’ ages, religion, number <strong>of</strong> adults in <strong>the</strong> household, and number <strong>of</strong> children in <strong>the</strong><br />
household were imputed to account for break <strong>of</strong>fs and non-responses, and <strong>the</strong> overall<br />
population was weighted to match census data for <strong>the</strong> geographic area on age. The self-report<br />
<strong>of</strong> being <strong>Jewish</strong> or part <strong>of</strong> a <strong>Jewish</strong> household from <strong>the</strong> survey interviews was <strong>the</strong>n extrapolated<br />
to allow for an estimate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> numbers <strong>of</strong> individuals Jews and <strong>Jewish</strong> households in <strong>the</strong> <strong>East</strong><br />
<strong>Bay</strong>.<br />
At an individual level, <strong>the</strong> survey estimates <strong>the</strong> overall <strong>Jewish</strong> population in <strong>the</strong> <strong>East</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> to be<br />
176,816, which includes <strong>Jewish</strong> individuals and non-Jews living in <strong>Jewish</strong> households.<br />
