Race and Ethnicity<br />
The vast majority <strong>of</strong> <strong>East</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> Jews identify as white (76 percent) or <strong>Jewish</strong> (6 percent). Fewer<br />
respondents identify as African American, Hispanic, or Asian American/Pacific Islander (6<br />
percent). Younger <strong>Jewish</strong> residents are less likely to identify as white and more likely to identify<br />
as nonwhite than older Jews. Unsurprisingly, <strong>the</strong> <strong>East</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> community overall is much more<br />
diverse: according to <strong>the</strong> 2010 Census numbers, 13 percent identify as African American, 32<br />
percent identify as Asian or Pacific Islander, and 31 percent identify as Hispanic or Latino. 16<br />
