<strong>Jewish</strong> Identification<br />
As a starting point, half <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong> residents identify as <strong>Jewish</strong>. In o<strong>the</strong>r words, when asked at<br />
<strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> survey to state <strong>the</strong>ir religion, 49 percent <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong> residents initially call<br />
<strong>the</strong>mselves <strong>Jewish</strong>. A third — 31 percent — initially does not identify with a religion or does not<br />
know <strong>the</strong>ir religion; a smaller number identify as Protestant, Catholic, ano<strong>the</strong>r Christian faith (18<br />
percent), or a non-Christian religion (3 percent). Respondents from all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se groups — <strong>the</strong><br />
―nones‖ and <strong>the</strong> Christians — identify as <strong>Jewish</strong> in some way when probed with fur<strong>the</strong>r<br />
questioning.<br />
