Almost 90 percent think that helping o<strong>the</strong>rs in need is a very important characteristic <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Jewish</strong> faith, followed by learning about <strong>Jewish</strong> history and culture, and Tikkun Olam. Some<br />

aspects <strong>of</strong> Judaism that carry little weight among <strong>the</strong> <strong>East</strong> <strong>Bay</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong> population overall have<br />

more significance among <strong>the</strong> ―Jew-ish,‖ particularly marrying someone <strong>Jewish</strong> (24 percent very<br />

important, compared with 13 percent overall), support for Israel (57 percent very important,<br />

compared with 40 percent overall) and giving <strong>the</strong>ir children a <strong>Jewish</strong> education (58 percent very<br />

important, compared with 39 percent overall).<br />
