Synagogue and Organizational Membership<br />

Overall, 21 percent <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong> residents report being current, dues paying members <strong>of</strong> a<br />

synagogue; ano<strong>the</strong>r quarter report having belonged to a synagogue in <strong>the</strong> past. Membership, <strong>of</strong><br />

course, is not synonymous with participation. In fact, 25 percent <strong>of</strong> non-members report<br />

attending services monthly or more and 24 percent always or usually attend services for <strong>the</strong><br />

High Holidays. In o<strong>the</strong>r words, <strong>the</strong>re are residents attending synagogue who do not actually<br />

belong or pay dues.<br />
