Essential Policy Information:<br />
Gordon Rule Requirement: Since this course is a Gordon Rule class, students must obtain a C- or<br />
better in order <strong>to</strong> pass the Gordon Rule requirement. Gordon rule requirements mandate a <strong>to</strong>tal<br />
writing assignment of approximately 3,333 words. Failure of the student <strong>to</strong> turn in the writing<br />
assignment will result in a final grade no higher than D+. For further information on these university<br />

Attendance/lateness policy:<br />
Unexcused Absences:<br />
1. A student may miss one week's worth of work without penalty.<br />
2. For any part of the second week of missed classes we will reduce the grade by one stage, e.g., B-<br />
> C+.<br />
3. For any part of the third week of missed classes we will reduce the grade by one additional stage,<br />
e.g., B+ > B-.<br />
4. For any part of the fourth week of missed classes we will follow the university guidelines on<br />
attendance and give no credit, i.e., F.<br />
Excused absences do not count against the student’s attendance. (Excused absences must be<br />
negotiated with the instruc<strong>to</strong>r, and may be for such reasons as funerals, visits <strong>to</strong> the doc<strong>to</strong>r, job<br />
interviews, or verifiable transportation emergencies.)<br />
