Academic Integrity Week - Best Practices The WISE Program has been commended by the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation, who commented: “Academic integrity is a major issue for all institutions around the world – the differentiating factor is how each of those institutions deals with the problem. This submission is a really imaginative approach based on a positive and public celebration of honesty and integrity.” (Source: https://www.caa.ae/caa/Images/gp_3.pdf) Student Accolades: Student participation in professional conferences and competitions at home and abroad has brought excellent exposure to the WISE Program. Examples include: • The UAE Youth Ambassador Program Delegation to South Korea (Summer 2012). • The 3rd SPE Abu Dhabi Young Professional Paper Contest, Abu Dhabi (June 5, 2012). • Ebtikar: Senior Design Projects Exhibit and Competition, PI (May 22, 2012). • The 1st ADNOC R&D Annual Conference (ARDAC 2012), Abu Dhabi (May 16-17, 2012). • The Oxford University Press Short Story Competition – in conjunction with Emirates Literary Festival, Dubai (March 2012). • The IPTC International Educational Week – in conjunction with 5th International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), Bangkok (February 7-9, 2012). • The Annual World Future Energy Summit (WFES 2012), Abu Dhabi (January 16-19, 2012). • The Annual International Design Competition and Forum – in conjunction with Strategies for Team-based Engineering Problem Solving (STEPS) Program, PI (December 18-20, 2011). • The World Petroleum Congress Excellence Awards for Youth, Best Paper/Poster Session Category, Doha (December 4, 2011). • The SPE Regional Educational Week – in conjunction with 17th Middle East 118

A “WISE Workshop” is planned where senior students will show their design projects in Arzanah and an outdoor projection screen to be set up under the Falcon Field dome. Service: A team of students from Arzanah visited 10 high schools in Abu Dhabi and also hosted a high school delegation in order to encourage female high school students to consider professions in science and technology. Our efforts resulted in an increase in applications for academic year 2012-13. VI. Summary The PI’s WISE Program is unique and has pioneered its own path while supporting ADNOC’s mandate and its students’ aspirations. The challenge has been in securing equal access to the academic resources of the institution while creating an independent female-oriented campus life. We continue to streamline our facilities and processes while maintaining the physical separation between male and female undergraduates. The WISE Program remains committed to being a model for female undergraduate education in science and engineering in the region and beyond. V. Future Plans/Initiatives Current initiatives include a new publication- “WISE Times” - and a regular lunchtime event which features short films (set up with the PI 119
