I. Executive Summary
The year 2011-2012 was the year of ABET.
The hard work of the previous five years
finally came to fruition, when a team from
the Accreditation Board for Engineering and
Technology (ABET) visited the PI in fall 2011 to
evaluate its five B.Sc. programs. The Electrical
Engineering program was commended for its
strong design component, as demonstrated by
its final year design projects. The department
as a whole impressed the evaluators, and they
finally awarded the Electrical Engineering
department their accreditation.
Although ABET accreditation was a major
accomplishment, we also had many other
accomplishments during the year. Our students
participated in local and regional competitions
and won awards and our faculty was engaged
in collaborative and joint research projects on
regional and international levels.
II. The Department’s Mission
and Vision
The mission of the Electrical Engineering
Program is to provide a world-class education
in electrical engineering with emphasis on
power, instrumentation and control systems
and automation engineering that prepares
graduates for successful professional careers
in ADNOC, other allied sponsors, in the
broader energy industry, and in a lifetime of
learning that will enable them to continue their
education throughout their career.
The vision of the Electrical Engineering
Program at the Petroleum Institute is to be
recognized as a premier electrical engineering
