Control Procedures<br />

Procedure—<br />

1. Gather together the following supplies: pheromone lure, cap, and cage;<br />

any locally available rectangular plastic pan that holds 6 to 8 liters of<br />

water; wooden stick large enough to fit across the width of the pan;<br />

flexible wire; water; any soap.<br />

2. Use the following table to select the appropriate number of traps to<br />

install in greenhouses or open fields (Bolkmans, 2009; FREDON Corse,<br />

2009a).<br />

If:<br />

And:<br />

Inside greenhouses 20 to 25<br />

Inside greenhouses Plants will be propagated 30<br />

Open fields 40 to 50<br />

Then install this number<br />

of traps per ha<br />

Important<br />

Pheromone lures should not be handled without gloves for protection<br />

because the oil on fingers can interfere with the pheromone balance of<br />

the lure.<br />

3. Wearing gloves, place the pheromone lure inside the cage and secure the<br />

cap according to instructions provided by the manufacturer, and set<br />

aside.<br />

4. Use a length of wire to attach the wooden stick on top of the pan across<br />

its width.<br />

5. Use a length of wire to attach the assembled cage with pheromone lure to<br />

the underside of the wooden stick.<br />

6. Fill the pan with soapy water.<br />

7. Replace lures every 4 to 6 weeks.<br />
