National Conference on <strong>Science</strong> of Climate Change and <strong>Earth</strong>’s Sustainability: Issues and Challenges ‘A Scientist-People Partnership’<br />
<strong>12</strong>-<strong>14</strong> <strong>September</strong>, <strong>2011</strong>, <strong>Lucknow</strong><br />
challenges” at <strong>Lucknow</strong> on scientists-people partnership. The delegates of the<br />
conference will also be involved in outreach activities apart from scientific<br />
deliberations. The main themes of the conference were selected in such a way to<br />
address all the domains of earth sciences:<br />
1. Climatic changes in the geological history, impact on <strong>Earth</strong>, and imprints of<br />
Quaternary and recent climatic change as studied in glacial, fluvial and marine<br />
systems.<br />
2. <strong>India</strong>n monsoon and climate change<br />
3. Atmospheric processes and climate change<br />
4. Natural resource management- surface and ground water, mineral and fuel<br />
wealth.<br />
5. Environmental pollution, solid-waste management<br />
6. Green chemistry and related studies and impact on ecology and agriculture,<br />
forestry<br />
7. Sustainable Development and renewable energy resources<br />
Apart from various technical sessions a panel of eminent scientists will also<br />
discuss “National strategies and plan for human and institutional capacity building<br />
in climate change”. An exhibition on ‘Solar Energy’ is also organized. As a part of<br />
outreach activities of SES a school children poster painting competition on ‘Save your<br />
Planet’ is also being organized jointly with Regional <strong>Science</strong> City, <strong>Lucknow</strong> to aware<br />
young students about the treat of climate change and their responsibility. Delegates<br />
have also offered to deliver popular lectures in surrounding schools and to interact with<br />
students. School students will also be invited in the inauguration of the conference to<br />
witness scientists interacting on core topics of science so as they are encourage to have<br />
career in earth sciences.<br />
The financial support received from the Ministry of <strong>Earth</strong> <strong>Science</strong>, Department<br />
of <strong>Science</strong> and Technology and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited greatly helped SES in<br />
organizing the Conference. Volunteer scientists of SES and other organizations and<br />
quality of technical papers received from delegates, show their commitment towards the<br />
