And even if you deem him to be ever born and everdying, yet, O mighty<br />

armed, you should not grieve for him. For whoever is born is sure to die and<br />

whoever dies is sure to be born again, and you should not grieve for the<br />

inevitable.<br />

TEXT 28<br />

avyaktadini bhutani<br />

vyakta-madhyani bharata<br />

avyakta-nidhanany eva<br />

tatra ka paridevana<br />

Beings are unmanifested in the beginning, O Bharata, they become<br />

manifest in the middle and are unmanifested again in their final state. So there<br />

is nothing for lamentation.<br />

TEXT 29<br />

ascarya-vat pasyati kascid enam<br />

ascarya-vad vadati tathaiva canyah.<br />

ascarya-vac cainam anyah srnoti<br />

srutvapy enam veda na caiva kascit<br />

But marvelous is one who sees him, marvelous likewise is one who<br />

speaks about him and even though one hears of him does not know him. For<br />

one sees him as a wonder, one speaks of him as a wonder, one hears of him as<br />

a wonder and though hearing, none understands him at all.<br />

TEXT 30<br />

dehi nityam avadhyo 'yam<br />

dehe sarvasya bharata<br />

tasmat sarvani bhutani<br />

na tvam socitum arhasi<br />

O Bharata, the soul which dwells in the body is eternal and can never be<br />

killed. So you should not lament for any living being.<br />

TEXT 31<br />

sva-dharmam api caveksya<br />

na vikampitum arhasi<br />

dharmyad dhi yuddhac chreyo 'nyat<br />

ksatriyasya na vidyate<br />

Further, if you consider your own duty, you should not waver because for<br />

a Kshatriya there is nothing nobler than fighting a righteous war.<br />

TEXT 32<br />

yadrcchaya copapannam<br />

svarga-dvaram apavrtam<br />

sukhinah ksatriyah partha<br />

labhante yuddham idrsam<br />

Happy are the Ksatriyas, O Partha, who find a righteous war on hand like<br />

this, which comes to them without their seeking and it opens the doors of the<br />

heavenly planets.<br />
