yatha nadinam bahavo 'mbu-vegah<br />
samudram evabhimnukha dravanti<br />
tatha tavami nara-loka-vira<br />
visanti vaktrany abhivijvalanti<br />
As the many torrents of rivers rush towards the ocean so do these heroes<br />
of the mortal world rush into Your flaming Mouths.<br />
TEXT 29<br />
yatha pradiptam jvalanam patanga<br />
visanti nasaya samrddha-vegah<br />
tathaiva nasaya visanti lokas<br />
tavapi vaktrani samrddha-vegah<br />
As mouths rush swiftly into a blazing fire to perish there, so do these men<br />
rush into Your Mouths with tremendous speed to their own destruction.<br />
TEXT 30<br />
lelihyase grasamanah samantal<br />
lokan samagran vadanair jvaladbhih<br />
tejobhir apuryajagat samagram<br />
bhasas tavograh pratapanti visno<br />
O Lord Vishnu, You are devouring all people from all directions through<br />
Your flaming mouths. You are manifested by covering all the universes with<br />
Your effulgence and terrible heat.<br />
TEXT 31<br />
akhyahi me ko bhavan ugra-rupo<br />
namo 'stu te deva-vara prasida<br />
vijnatum icchami bhavantam adyam<br />
na hi prajanami tava pravrttim<br />
O Lord, tell me who are You with this terrible form? I offer my obeisances<br />
unto You, have mercy on me. I am not aware of Your nature, and I wish to know<br />
You.<br />
TEXT 32<br />
sri-bhagavan uvaca<br />
kalo 'smi loka-ksaya-krt pravrddho<br />
lokan samahartum iha pravrttah<br />
rte 'pi tvam na bhavisyanti sarve<br />
ye 'vasthitah pratyanikesu yodhah<br />
The Supreme Lord said: O Arjuna, I am time, that destroys the world and<br />
which is made manifest to destroy these enormous multitude of men. Except<br />
you (the Pandavas) all the warriors present here will be slain.<br />
TEXT 33<br />
tasmat tvam uttistha yaso labhasva<br />
jitva satrun bhunksva rajyam samrddham<br />
mayaivaite nihatah purvam eva<br />
nimitta-matram bhava savya-sacin<br />
