yuktahara-viharasya<br />

yukta-cestasya karmasu<br />

yukta-svapnavabodhasya<br />

yogo bhavati duhkha-ha<br />

One who is moderate in eating, sleeping, working and waking, and selfrestrained<br />

in his enterprises can become free from all sorts of afflictions by<br />

practicing yoga.<br />

TEXT 18<br />

yada viniyatam cittam<br />

atmany evavatisthate<br />

nisprhah sarva-kamebhyo<br />

yukta ity ucyate tada<br />

A yogi becomes situated in transcendence, when he is detached from all<br />

material desires and affinities and his thoughts are controlled and are fixed on<br />

the self and Godhead.<br />

TEXT 19<br />

yatha dioo nivata-stho<br />

nengate sopama smrta<br />

yogino yata-cittasya<br />

yunjato yogam atmanah<br />

The mind of a yogi who is situated in transcendence is as steady and true<br />

as the unwavering flame of a lamp in a windless house.<br />

TEXT 20<br />

yatroparamate cittam<br />

niruddham yoga-sevaya<br />

yatra caivatmanatmanam<br />

pasyann atmani tusyati<br />

When one's mind becomes completely detached from material activities<br />

by practice of yoga, he is said to be situated in samadhi or trance. At this stage<br />

he is able to see the self by pure intelligence and feels pleasure within his own<br />

self.<br />

TEXT 21<br />

sukham atyantikam yat tad<br />

buddhi-grahyam atindriyam<br />

vetti yatra na caivayam<br />

sthitas calati tattvatah<br />

In that blissful state, he gets tremendous transcendental happiness and<br />

enjoys himself through divine senses. Being established in such a state he<br />

never departs from truth.<br />

TEXT 22-23<br />

yam labdhva caparam labham<br />

manyate nadhikam tatah<br />
