uddhared atmanatmanam<br />
natmanam avasadayet<br />
atmaiva hy atmano bandhur<br />
atmaiva ripur atmanah<br />
A living entity, who is fallen into the well of worldliness can be liberated<br />
by a mind which is free from all sorts of material attachment. A living entity<br />
should not be depressed by worldly attractions. The mind is the friend as well<br />
as foe of a living entity at different circumstances.<br />
TEXT 6<br />
bandhur atmatmanas tasya<br />
yenatmaivatmana jitah<br />
anatmanas tu satrutve<br />
vartetatmaiva satru-vat<br />
The mind is a friend to a living entity who has full control of self and an<br />
enemy to him who has no control over it.<br />
TEXT 7<br />
jitatmanah prasantasya<br />
paramatma samahitah<br />
sitosna-sukha-duhkhesu<br />
tatha manapamanayoh<br />
One who is established in yoga, has conquered his mind, he is never<br />
preturbed by heat and cold, happiness and distress, honour and dishonour, and<br />
is deeply absorbed in meditation on the Supreme Lord.<br />
TEXT 8<br />
jnana-vijnana-trptatma<br />
kuta-stho vijitendriyah<br />
yukta ity ucyate yogi<br />
sama-lostrasma-kancanah<br />
He is self-content with acquired knowledge and transcendental selfrealisation,<br />
and is self controlled. He considers everything whether it be clay,<br />
stone or gold - as the same.<br />
TEXT 9<br />
suhrn-mitrary-udasinamadhyastha-dvesya-bandhusu<br />
sadhusv api ca papesu<br />
sama-buddhir visisyate<br />
He is greatly honoured as he regards his well-wishers, friends, enemies,<br />
neutrals, mediators, the envious, relatives, the pious and the sinners alike.<br />

yogi yunjita satatam<br />
atmanam rahasi sthitah<br />
ekaki yata-cittatma<br />
nirasir aparigrahah<br />
