Those who are interested in self-realisation in terms of mind and sense<br />

control, offer the actions of the ten senses as well as the vital airs (breath), as<br />

sacrifices to the fire of the controlled mind.<br />

TEXT 28<br />

dravya-yajnas tapo-yajna<br />

yoga-yajnas tathapare<br />

svadhyaya-jnana-yajnas ca<br />

yatayah samsita-vratah<br />

All these sacrifices may be divided into four kinds, such as Dravya Yajna,<br />

Japa Yajna, Yoga Yajna and Swadhyaya Yajna. One who performs such yajnas<br />

are called ascetics of severe vows.<br />

TEXT 29<br />

apane juhvati pranam<br />

prane 'panam tathapare<br />

pranapana-gati ruddhva<br />

pranayama-parayanah<br />

apare niyataharah<br />

pranan pranesu juhvati<br />

Some people who advocate Hatha yoga, practice Pranayam by stopping<br />

the movement of Prana into Apana and vice versa, and gradually stop the<br />

movements of both by practicing Kumbhaka (stopping all breathing). Some<br />

others curtailing their eating, perform sacrifice offering their Pranas to the fire<br />

of Pranas.<br />

TEXT 30<br />

sarve 'py ete yajna-vido<br />

yajna-ksapita-kalmasah<br />

yajna-sistamrta-bhujo<br />

yanti brahma sanatanam<br />

All these performers are well versed in the principle of sacrifice and<br />

having destroyed their sins by performance of sacrifice, ultimately attain the<br />

eternal Brahman by testing the nectarine remnants of such sacrifice.<br />

TEXT 31<br />

nayam loko 'sty ayajnasya<br />

kuto 'nyah kuru-sattama<br />

O Arjuna, the scion of Kuru, why speak of the next world, even this world<br />

is denied to the non-performers of sacrifice.<br />

TEXT 32<br />

evam bahu-vidha yajna<br />

vitata brahmano mukhe<br />
