avrtam jnanam etena<br />
jnanino nitya-vairina<br />
kama-rupena kaunteya<br />
duspurenanalena ca<br />
O son of Kunti, the true knowledge is enveloped by the insatiable fire of<br />
desire, which is the constant foe of the wise.<br />
TEXT 40<br />
indriyani mano buddhir<br />
asyadhisthanam ucyate<br />
etair vimohayaty esa<br />
jnanam avrtya dehinam<br />
The senses, the mind and intelligence are the abode of lust. This lust<br />
enwraps the real knowledge of the living entity and deludes him.<br />
TEXT 41<br />
tasmat tvam indriyany adau<br />
niyamya bharatarsabha<br />
papmanam prajahi hy enam<br />
jnana- vijnana-nasanam<br />
Therefore, O scion of Bharata, having controlled the senses from the very<br />
beginning, you should conquer this lust, the destroyer of real knowledge.<br />
TEXT 42<br />
indriyani parany ahur<br />
indriyebhyah param manah<br />
manasas tu para buddhir<br />
yo buddheh paratas tu sah<br />
The sense organs are said to be superior to matter, the mind is superior<br />
to the sense organs, intelligence is superior to the mind and he (the soul) is<br />
even superior to intelligence.<br />
TEXT 43<br />
evam buddheh param buddhva<br />
samstabhyatmanam atmana<br />
jahi satrum maha-baho<br />
kama-rupam durasadam<br />
O mighty armed Arjuna, thus knowing the soul to be superior to<br />
intelligence and making the mind steady with the knowledge of true self,<br />
conquer the invincible enemy known as lust.<br />
