Purpose<br />

The purpose of the <strong>Eaton</strong> <strong>Corporation</strong> workplace policy on substance abuse is to<br />

establish and maintain a workplace free from the influences of unauthorized controlled<br />

substances including illegal drugs, legal drugs used not in accordance <strong>with</strong> a prescription,<br />

alcohol, and any other intoxicant or substance of abuse. The policy applies to all job applicants,<br />

employees, and contract or le<strong>as</strong>ed individuals, <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> consultants, contractors, vendors, and<br />

visitors on the Company premises at all U. S. facilities. (See Appendix A: <strong>Eaton</strong> <strong>Corporation</strong><br />

Substance Abuse Policy.)<br />

Prohibited Conduct<br />

In general, the policy prohibits the following:<br />

• Unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, purch<strong>as</strong>e, possession, sale, or use of<br />

illegal drugs or unauthorized controlled substances<br />

• Possession, use, distribution, purch<strong>as</strong>e or sale of alcohol, or being subject to the effects<br />

of alcohol while on Company premises, or when providing services to the Company, in<br />

Company owned, le<strong>as</strong>ed or rented vehicles<br />

• Refusal to take an alcohol and/or dmg test, including adulterating, substituting, or<br />

otherwise tampering <strong>with</strong> a specimen.<br />

Policy Exceptions<br />

In special circumstances, management may approve exceptions to the alcohol policy <strong>as</strong> follows:<br />

• Consumption, possession, sale, or purch<strong>as</strong>e at <strong>Eaton</strong> conference facilities or other<br />

specified locations;<br />

Possession while in an employee's personal or <strong>as</strong>signed <strong>Eaton</strong> vehicle; or<br />

• Possession white being transported in an <strong>Eaton</strong> vehicle in compliance <strong>with</strong> legal<br />

requirements.<br />

Where management h<strong>as</strong> approved the use of alcohol at any Company sponsored<br />

business or social functions, the following guidelines should be considered:<br />

• Supervisors and management should demonstrate appropriate behavior and make a<br />

re<strong>as</strong>onable effort to insure that inappropriate or irresponsible drinking doesn't occur.<br />

• Managers or supervisors hosting such events should seek one or more<br />

volunteers who will not be drinking during the occ<strong>as</strong>ion and who, if needed, will take<br />

re<strong>as</strong>onable precaution to see that the person reaches home, a hotel, or the care of a<br />

spouse or other responsible person, for anyone who is, in the host's judgment, exhibiting<br />

inappropriate behavior or is at risk to drive an automobile.<br />

• The time during which alcoholic drinks are served prior to a meal should not be<br />

excessive.<br />

• After meal bar service should not be provided if attendees would be driving after the<br />

event.<br />

Non-alcoholic beverages should be readily available.<br />

Q Consumption of alcohol during the workday, even at lunches or breaks, should be<br />

discouraged.<br />
