Jyväskylä region through for example tourism, so the employment effect has only a partial impact on theregion.Employment effects of the University of Jyväskylä and Jyväskylä PolytechnicIn an input-output research conducted in 1995, an employment multiplier was calculated for each field. Itindicates the number of man-years per output of million euros in each field. The employment effects ofeducation can be evaluated with these employment multipliers and output effects calculated for each fieldearlier.The direct employment effects calculated from the output of the University of Jyväskylä and JyväskyläPolytechnic in 2004 (EUR 198.1 million) amount to approximately 4 100 person years (Table 4). The shareof education in the employment effect produced by the output of educational institutions is nearly 96%. Thedirect and indirect effects of the examined education to other fields amount to 186 man-years.The indirect employment effect of the University of Jyväskylä and the polytechnic is approximately 4 100man-years. In addition, almost 370 person years are created through the activities of these educationalinstitutions (Table 4). The field of education benefits the most of the employment effects created by theeducational institutions. There are also significant effects on the public sector and the field of trade. Whenevaluating the employment effects, also the significant employment effects created by consumer demandhave to be borne in mind.
