Police reports on road conditions during late night and early morning hoursare used as the basis for call-outs.Due to the hilly terrain and high level of service expected, public works may apply more saltthan standard. With the addition of a brine maker, public works expects to reduce the amountof salt used to clear icy and snowy roads. Certain state and county roads are cleared andtreated by municipal forces under intergovernmental agreements to improve road accessibilityand the need to mainlain one standard throughout the community.Department Standards:• Fourteen truck routes are utilized averaging slighlly over 12 miles per area.• Hills, intersections, main streets, school bus routes and stops, and the hospital receivefirst priority and then the remainder of the route area is attended to.• For temperatures above 15' F, salt will be applied; less than 15 0 F requires theapplication of anti-skid materials since salt becomes less effective for melting snow andice at lower temperatures.. 108 .
