MUNICIPALITY OF MONROEVILLE2012 BUDGETDepartment Number:2120 Department Name: Patrol and Traffic DivisionDepartment Description:The basic responsibilities of the Municipality of Monroeville Police Department are preventionof crime, regulation of traffic, protection of rights of persons and property, preservation of thepublic peace, enforcement of laws of the state and ordinances of the Municipality,apprehension and arrest of criminals, accident investigation, and administration of rescue andlifesaving services. Police services also include the presentation of educational programs,search for missing children and adults, traffic surveys, escorts to banks for persons carryinglarge sums of money, checking of businesses and vacant homes, and providing generalassistance and information to local citizens and nonresidents.Patrols are carried out by the car assigned to a particular area and are done when the areacar or cars are not tied up with calls for assistance. Patrols are done on a random basisthroughout the area but may be done on a directed basis if a situation or condition warrantsand if the administration so orders.Department Standards:• Police service will be provided twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.• A minimum of five (5) officers will be on duty on all shifts.• All officer activity is logged daily and compiledmonthly.• All officers will be tested annually for firearms proficiency and trained in CPR and firstaid.• Home vacancy checks will be performed for any resident upon request.- 84 -
