MUNICIPALITY OF MONROEVILLE2012 BUDGETDepartment Number:1100 Department Name: Mayor and CouncilDepartnlentDescription:The Mayor and Council constitute the governing body of the Municipality. The Council enactslegislation, votes on other matters, attends meetings and hearings and, in general, does thosethings necessary to help protect the health, safety and welfare of the community. The Mayor,the only official elected at large, is the recognized leader of the community and while havingonly tie-breaking voting responsibility, presides at meetings and carries out functions outlinedin the Home Rule Charter.This budget supports a program of receipt and disbursement of information both within theMunicipality and the State, which aids the Mayor and Council in their decision-making andpolicy roles.This department also provides for hiring of part-time summer employees. These employeesassist public works with summer maintenance activities and assist other departments withgeneral clerical activities.Departnlent Standards:• Council meets regularly, two (2) times per month i.e. Citizen's NighUWork Session andthe regular business meeting, for the purpose of enacting municipal legislation and otherofficial business for Monroeville.• Elected officials attend various information and ceremonial meetings, as well as,interacting with residents on numerous occasions.- 62·
