In this chart, the data for Dudley has been grouped into quintiles forDudley only, whereas the England level data is grouped into quintiles for the wholeof England.The income received by households is affected by direct taxation such as incometax, national insurance and council tax. The ratio of the top/bottom quintile for grossincome is 1.5 for Dudley and 2.0 for England, whereas this ratio is slightly reducedfor net income, when taking account of direct taxes, to 1.4 and 1.7 respectively. Asteeper gradient is seen between the bottom and top quintiles for England than forDudley.The spatial distribution of income deprivation in Dudley is shown in Figure 6. Thismap shows income deprivation in Dudley, based on information from the Index ofMultiple Deprivation (IMD) 2007. The income deprivation index is the proportion ofpeople who are income deprived in an area, ranked nationally.44
