Spring semesters. Candidates are not permitted to enroll in any other coursework whileengaged in Student Teaching.To be considered for admission to Student Teaching, a candidate must meet the followingrequirements:1. Hold Teacher Candidate status by being admitted to the TEP before submitting anapplication for Student Teaching.2. Present documented passing scores on all Praxis II tests required by the State Board ofEducation relative to the areas, levels, or subject fields for which the Candidate isseeking licensure. Note: Candidates must submit official Praxis scores to the university;student-issued copies are not acceptable.3. Achieve a minimum 2.5 grade point average in General Education, ProfessionalEducation and subject fields for those seeking secondary licensure (7-12): Biology,Business, English, History, and Psychology. A passing score on the Praxis II test in thesubject field will suffice for meeting the 2.5 GPA requirement in the subject field.4. Complete required Professional Education courses with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0) ineach course.5. Complete all courses for the degree except Student Teaching.6. Achieve a “pass” on the Writing Proficiency Exam or verify exemption.7. Participate in individual and/or group interviews with the Director of Educational FieldExperiences upon request. Interviews may include other <strong>Victory</strong> <strong>University</strong> faculty or anadministrator when deemed appropriate.8. Complete and document required hours of field experiences.9. Verify current membership in Student Teacher Education Association or ChristianEducators Association International.10. Pass a background check.In some instances, the Department of Education requires testing to evaluate a candidate’s levelof competence and suitability for teaching.Each candidate must have a minimum of twenty (20) semester hours from <strong>Victory</strong> <strong>University</strong>before being considered for placement in Student Teaching to ensure that the last thirty-two(32) hours are received from <strong>Victory</strong> in compliance with graduation requirements. (Refer to thesection on Graduation Requirements in this catalog.)ENHANCED STUDENT TEACHINGThe Teacher Education Program has had a team approach to the student teaching experiencesince its inception, and each team includes teacher candidate, cooperating teacher, <strong>University</strong>supervisor, or Director of Educational Field Experiences. The team is charged with theresponsibility of monitoring each student teacher and serving in an evaluative, yet supportive178
