UNIVERSITY STUDIES (VU)VU-1000 FOUNDATIONS FOR COLLEGE LEARNING (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course fosters critical thinking skills development through targeted readings, assignments,and class discussion. The application of critical thinking skills is essential to preparing studentsfor their chosen careers and life mission. Topics covered in this course include intellectual traitsof critical thinkers, elements of thought, and intellectual standards for higher order thinking.This course also supports students’ success by introducing students to key study and resourcesavailable at <strong>Victory</strong> <strong>University</strong>. (Dual Enrollment only.)VU-1001 CAEL PORTFOLIO (3 SEMESTER HOURS)Prior learning assessment (PLA) is the process of earning college credit for learning that wasacquired from non-classroom experiences like work, professional training, military careers,volunteering, and personal life. VU-1001 CAEL Portfolio will help students identify areas oflearning they may want to have evaluated for college-level equivalency. The course will alsoguide students through the preparation and compilation of all components for the evaluationof a portfolio or prior learning through LearningCounts.org. Students will learn critical reflectionskill to rethink the value of their learning and its implications for future learning. Adult learningtheory, models, and concepts will be discussed and applied to case studies. VU-1001 CAELPortfolio is facilitated by an instructor who provides guidance for the student in preparing his orher portfolio-based request for credit. Successful completion of VU-1001 CAEL Portfolio willresult in three lower–level credits.VU-1100 (FORMERLY CS-1100) FOUNDATIONS FOR CHRISTIAN LEARNING (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course fosters critical thinking skills development through targeted readings, assignmentsand class discussion. Topics covered in this course include integration ofChristian faith and learning, intellectual traits of critical thinkers, elements of thought, andintellectual standards for higher order thinking. This class also supports student success byintroducing students to key study skills and resources available at <strong>Victory</strong> <strong>University</strong>. EFFECTIVEMARCH 11, <strong>2011</strong>, THIS COURSE IS REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS WITH LESS THAN 60 HOURS OFCREDIT UPON ADMISSION INTO VICTORY UNIVERSITY.VU-2100 (FORMERLY CS-2100) FAITH AND LEARNING(3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course is designed to provide the student with the foundations of critical thinking and anoverview of the integration of faith and learning. It is a course steeped in the ChristianWorldview and its relationship to being a lifelong learner. Through the given readings studentswill explore what a Christian worldview is in relationship to the worldview they hold. They willanalyze their own value structure. Finally they will examine how their worldview is reflected intheir past, present, and future decisions about education, careers, and social activities.Prerequisite: Students must be transfer students who have more than 24 hours of acceptedcredits.242
