Prerequisite: EN-1202.BT/HS-3150 HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY II(3 SEMESTER HOURS)The Protestant Reformation and further development of Christianity, including the growth ofdenominations in mainstream Protestantism, response of modern Roman Catholicism andEastern Orthodoxy, emergence of evangelical Soteriology and revivalism, missionary andecumenical movements, and the background and development of major trends in modernChristianity up to the present. Prerequisite: EN-1202.BT-3180 PENTATEUCH (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course explores the material of the Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy) in its ancient NearEastern context (geographical, geopolitical, literary, socio-cultural). Participants in this coursewill engage in a close reading of the material with a view to apprehending the theological andethical essence of the texts, which is foundation both for grasping the biblical witness thatfollows, and also for informing and forming Christian living and mission. Prerequisite: BT-2130,EN-1202.BT-3300 CULTS AND WORLD RELIGIONS (3 SEMESTER HOURS)An introductory survey of the beliefs, history, and practice of the world’s major religions. Thedistinctives of each religion will be highlighted in comparison and/or contrast with historicorthodox Christian doctrine and practice. When possible, an examination of the major worldcults will also be undertaken. Prerequisite: BT-1010, EN-1202.BT-3313 POETIC AND WISDOM LITERATURE (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course examines poetic and wisdom literature of the Old Testament in its ancient NearEastern context. In focusing on Psalms, Lamentations, Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, and Song ofSolomon, particular attention will be given to the nature and form of the text as well as aconcentration on theological and ethical content therein, all with a consistent discernmentconcerning the relevance of the course material for contemporary Christian living and mission.Prerequisite: BT-2130, EN-1202.BT-3503 HOMILETICS (3 SEMESTER HOURS)A study of the art of sermon making utilizing the best of contemporary literature as it reflectsBiblical models. Prerequisite: BT-2130, EN-1202.BT-3523 MISSIONS PRACTICUM (3 SEMESTER HOURS)A student-oriented learning experience crafted by the Instructor, including a trip to a missionfield for hands-on experience.
