CAMPUS JUDICIAL SYSTEM AND DISCIPLINARYPROCEDURESPOLICY ENFORCEMENT AND CAMPUS JUDICIAL BOARDThe judicial system and disciplinary procedures outlined here are designed to handle cases ofinfractions as expeditiously, wisely, and fairly as possible. Full details concerning the CampusJudicial Board and information related to the judicial system is available from the Office ofStudent Development. A student who has been charged with infractions of policy will behandled in the following manner:1. Information concerning the infractions will be reviewed by the Director of StudentDevelopment or designee to determine if judicial proceedings are necessary. If theDirector of Student Development judges the alleged infraction to warrant it, the casewill be referred to the Campus Judicial Board, or the Director or his or her designee mayhandle the disciplinary action on behalf of the <strong>University</strong>. A student directed to theCampus Judicial Board can request that the Director of Student Development hear thecase. The Director is not bound to accept the request. The Campus Judicial Boardconsists of one Student Development representative who convenes the Board aschairperson, a staff or faculty member to serve as secretary, two faculty members, andthree student members.2. At a hearing by the Campus Judicial Board, the student may ask a fellow student, faculty,or staff member to advise or represent him/her. The student may be presentthroughout all presentation of the testimony and evidence at the hearing.The student’s case must be heard within seven days of the date when a written statement ofcharges and notification of hearing is either hand‐delivered or mailed to the student. Thestudent may request up to a seven day postponement of the hearing and the Director ofStudent Development shall determine whether or not the request is for valid cause.APPEALS FROM DECISIONSIf the student wishes to appeal the decision of the Campus Judicial Board or of the Director ofStudent Development (or designee), he/she must do so in writing within seven days of theoriginal decision to the Executive Director of Enrollment Management. Appeals will only beconsidered based upon the existence of at least one of the following Conditions of Appeal:1. The student contends (and can support the contention) that he/she did not receive afair hearing.2. The student contends (and can support the contention) that significant and relevantnew evidence exists and merits consideration.3. The student contends (and can support the contention) that the decision and/orsanctions imposed were arbitrary and/or unduly harsh.44
