HU-3503 TOPICS IN ART (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course provides an in-depth study in a specific era or genre of art or artist chosen by theprofessor. It may be repeated for up to six (6) semester hours. Prerequisite: HU-2301 and HU-2100.HU-4000 CAPSTONE IN LIBERAL STUDIES (3 SEMESTER HOURS)A capstone course for the Liberal Studies Major that focuses on the integration of faith andleaning as it relates to the study of interdisciplinary arts. Knowledge, concepts, ideas, andquestions from previous courses in the student’s curriculum will constitute the starting pointdiscussion culminate in a final project. Prerequisite: senior standing as a Liberal Studies majoror consent of the professor. Offered on demand.HU-4203 TOPICS IN RHETORICAL STUDIES (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course investigates the various topics related to the study of humans using symbolicdiscourse to influence others. Involves theory and application using historical and/or criticalmethodologies. Prerequisite: EN-1202 and HU-2333. Offered on demand.HU-4333 SPECIAL STUDIES IN HUMANITIES (3 SEMESTER HOURS)A course offering intensive study in the humanities on specialized topics not covered underother available departmental course offerings. LEARNING ENHANCEMENT (LE)LE-0101 READING FOR COMPREHENSION (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course provides diverse opportunities for increasing reading efficiency. Emphasis is givento vocabulary, comprehension, critical reading, flexibility of reading rates and bibliographicskills. The course is designed to remediate student deficiencies and satisfies no requirement forany degree. Minimum passing grade is “C” (2.00). Prerequisite: placement in course.LE-0102 BASIC GRAMMAR AND MECHANICS (3 SEMESTER HOURS)This course is the foundation for all subsequent writing classes for those students who cannotbegin with Comp I. It focuses on writing a complete sentence, grammar, mechanics, andpunctuation. In order to pass the class, the student must be able to write a paragraph of atleast five sentences with no errors (grammar, mechanics, or punctuation). Added May 3 rd ,<strong>2011</strong>: Students who do not pass the VU-0300 Student Success Workshop and whose essayscored less than a 3 on the six-point grading rubric are required to take this course along withthe co-requisite LE-0800 lab. Students who must take this course have received a 14 or less onthe ACT English sub score; a 380 or less on the AST Verbal; and a 2-3 score on e-Write.Minimum passing grade is “C” (2.00).LE-0111 CRITICAL READING SKILLS (3 SEMESTER HOURS)(Previous title: Critical Reading)This course provides diverse opportunities for increasing and improving reading strategies asrequired for college level coursework. Emphasis is placed on comprehension, context clues,main ideas, vocabulary, patterns of organization, and critical reading skills. Learning andstudying strategies are a part of the course and embedded in coursework. Even though this is anon-credited course and will not apply toward any degree program, it is a learningenhancement course and is very important to student success in college. Prerequisite:placement in course.LE-0112 BASIC GRAMMAR AND WRITING SKILLS (3 SEMESTER HOURS)(Previous title: English Grammar and Writing)This course provides diverse opportunities for mastery of the rules of English grammar andimprovement of writing as required for college level coursework.
