LANDSLIDE PRONE AREAS IN INDIA This map given below is based on the past history and records of landslides occurrences in India. It is found that some areas are most prone to landslide hazard and require to be mapped in 1:2,000 scale. The areas are most prone including northeast India, Sikkim, Western Ghats (Kerala and Tamil Nadu), Western Ghats (Kokan), Western Ghats (Maharashtra). For more details , please refer to Annex- V. MAPPING REQUIREMENT FOR LANDSLIDE HAZARD ZONATION 1. Aerial mapping of critical slopes needs to be done at the scale 1:2,000 and contour intervals of 0.5 meter or better for slope angles less than ten degrees. 2. Aerial mapping of critical slopes needs to be done at the scale 1:2,000 and contour intervals of 1.0 meter or better for slope angles more than 10 degrees. 3. Geotechnical map of critical slopes needs to be done at the scale 1:2,000 and contour intervals of 1.0 meter. 4. Vegetation map/ land use map in the scale of 1:2,000. 5. Geological maps of the area of interest in the scale of 1:50,000. 6. Rainfall map in the scale of 1:10,000. 7. Seismotectonic map of the area of interest in the scale of 1:50,000. 76
