The maps of state and districts had been collated with georeferenced map of
India using various GIS tools. The comprehensive maps of India including state and
district boundaries have been prepared and used for present purpose. The accuracy
of maps is sufficient for the present purpose.
State and Districts profiles: The census 2001 data has been used as base data
for district population, area and other relevant information. The data has been cross-
verified from NIC and state government databases. The new districts from 2001
onwards have also been taken in to the present data set. There are total 28 state,
07 union territories, and 626 districts in India. For more details , please refer to
Annex- III.
QUALITY CONTROL FOR DATA
QUALITY CHECK OF DATA BY IMD
India Meteorological Department has inbuilt quality control mechanism on
cyclone data base including track, intensity and other parameters. Every year IMD
conducts a Annual Cyclone Review (ACR), where the operational data is presented.
The data acquired from various method such as ship data, synoptic charts, surface
observations, satellite and radar observation etc. is presented and compare by
experts. The corrected cyclone parameters are finalized and archived for records.
