Chapter 6 • Stratified Random Sampling MethodPredicted probablility ofLinaria dalmatica occurrencet Figure 5. Probabilityof occurrence maps fortwo target species inthe Northern Range ofYellowstone NationalPark, Dalmatian toadflax(Linaria dalmatica) andcheatgrass (Bromustectorum).Predicted probablility ofBromus tectorum occurrencecould not be used in the model. Examples of the probabilityof occurrence maps for the northern range of YellowstoneNational Park are provided in Figure 5.The probability of occurrence maps represent the suitabilityof the environmental conditions for the target NIS. Thus, propagules of a target NIS may not have reached a particulararea, but if they do these maps demonstrate whether the areais “more ideal” to “less ideal” for colonization. Therefore, themaps can be used to prioritize areas for future sampling, both for finding new populations and also to select populationsto monitor for change and impact, consequentlyproviding information for improved management decisions.Equipment NeededAny GPS unit with postprocessing capability to improvedata accuracy (e.g., differential correction) is acceptable. Wehave used Pro XR receivers or GeoExplorer3 units (TrimbleNavigation Ltd.).
