HORSING AROUND AT HUNTERS RUN
Katie Alter showed her horse Lily of the Valley
By Gwen Dvorkin
The New Show Barn at Hunter’s Run is Now Open
A new state-of-the-art show barn that features 26 stalls (all equipped with an automatic
watering system) has been officially opened at Hunter’s Run. The automatic watering
system enables the horses stabled at this facility to have fresh water 24 hours a day.
Also, all stalls include stall mats to protect the horse’s hooves, ankles and legs.
Lightening rods have recently been strategically placed on the barn to protect the horses
from harm during a storm. There are fans in every stall and aisle way and a fly spray
system with a nozzle in every stall and entrance to enhance the comfort and the
environment of the horses and the people visiting or working in the stables. This system
is filled only with botanical, all natural spray, which provides a healthier environment.
And to keep the animals clean and happy, a six station wash area is located just off the
side of the barn.
Horses boarded at Hunter’s Run include Appaloosas, Palominos, Thoroughbreds,
Quarter Horses, Warm Bloods and Ponies. There is also a three stall barn and an
eighteen stall barn. Both of these barns feature two arenas, giving the horses plenty of
area for exercise.
Many of the horses at Hunter’s Run are trained, as are the riders, in the English
Hunter-Jumper style, which means that riders learn how to take horses over jumps
(fences) on courses and are judged on horse and rider performance. The English
Hunter-Jumper style is famous for the way it showcases the talents of the rider and the
horse as they work as a team. The style is also legendary because of the grace and beauty
of the rider and horse, which makes it a very “visual” event and a satisfying experience
for the spectators.
The Latest Horse Show News
The latest horse show was the Palm Beach County Horsemen's Association (PBCHA)
show, held in Wellington. Katie Alter showed her horse Lily of the Valley and did an
excellent job – she earned ribbons in all the classes she participated in. Alexandra
Danovitch showed her horse Rock Star for the first time in the Jumper ring and was
clean in the "blue ribbon" class both days. She also placed in all of her other hopeful and
training jumper classes. She, along with Kelly Levine and Kayla Patregnani, competed
in the all-star equestrian games, held at the end of the show day on the Stadium
Jumping grounds, which was hosted by Parkland’s Megan O'Dyer.
Congratulations to all of the competitors on a wonderful showing.
