My wife and I got involved with the About Family Fitness health club project
in the summer of 2002. We got involved with this project because we had high
hopes and aspirations for this type of health club in this community. We
believed,and still do,that this family concept facility is right for our community.
We have both been working in this community in a fitness capacity since 1995.
We are actively involved in our community between our children, Colin and
Aidan, and various charities as well as our church Saint Elizabeth Anne Seton.
We love this community because of its uniqueness to South Florida. This is a
family oriented community with excellent schools and opportunity. It is only
natural that we would want to do business here. Our goal for the AFF project
was to put together a quality product that would benefit our community.Things
started out very promising with the vision that was presented during the pre-sale
phase of the construction of the club.Then things were delayed. Unfortunately,
things got out of control for the former owners and investors of AFF. The club
finally completed construction and was opened to the public in Dec.2005.
It was soon revealed that there were capital issues that caused legal wrangling
and eventually caused the club to be taken over by the landlord for the Shoppes
of Heron Lakes. During all the problems, our staff and us at Body Mechanics
Wellness Inc. were continually hounded about the current status and future of
AFF. We chose not to get involved with the negativity because we could not
afford to be infected and affected by it. Our livelihood depended on the future
of the club. We had to defend the rumors that other fitness clubs were buying
AFF. Finally, we made a decision to try to get control of our destiny and the
club. We tried various methods to no avail, until finally we came up with a scenario
that worked for everyone.
The landlord got a partner who has the experience and passion to run a topnotch
facility. The former owners benefited by our picking up their leases and
saving them the wrath of the leasing companies. The members retained their
memberships and now they have us, who believe in this concept. We want this
facility to be a place for our community to come and have a family experience.
It’s nice to be able to stay close to home and have a great time for the family that
focuses on health and wellness.For the people who live in this NW— section of
Coral Springs and Parkland there is not a more convenient location than AFF.
We are here to stay.This community needs to see this club survive and prosper.
It reminds you that in life you have to continue to do the right thing no matter

Parkland Movies
Come Out & Play!
The City of Parkland plans to
expand leisure activities for its residents
by featuring classic and current
family-oriented movies at
Terramar Park, 6575 Northwest
76 Drive. The scheduled viewings
at 6:30 p.m. are on: January
13 and 27, February 10 and 24,
March 10, April 7 and May 12,
2007. Residents are welcome to bring
blankets, lawn chairs and snacks, but no alcoholic beverages
please. Park Trails and Riverglades Elementary Schools PTAs
will sell refreshments. Admission is free. For further information, call
Leisure Services Special Events Coordinator at 954 757-4120.

PARK TRAILS

Happy New Year to all! As the year 2007 commences, Park Trails
Elementary has a lot to look forward to. After a much needed break, students
and staff look forward to starting a new year and continuing to blaze
a trail of educational excellence!
The Park Trails Holiday Giving Tree was once again a great success.
Thank you to all who participated for your kindness and generosity.
This holiday event benefited the children and families of Cresthaven
Elementary, Larkdale Elementary, Sunland Elementary and the Family
Resource Center. What a great feeling it is to make a child’s holiday
wish come true!
Mark your calendars for A Night at the Oasis. Park Trails will be holding
their 3rd annual adult-only fundraising event on Friday,
February 9 at Parkland Golf & Country Club. Contact Maxine Scherr at
(954)260-6774 or Susan Solomon at (954)255-9009 to discuss sponsorship
opportunities. Monies raised will go toward the purchase of computer
equipment for the students.
Park Trails is excited to announce that starting this month, the
Trailblazer is going electronic. The school’s newspaper will be available via
the school’s web site, www.parktrailselementary.com.
There will be no school on Monday, January 15, in observance of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday.

Howl Book Club
Take this opportunity to share a

hosts the event on Wednesday
January 17th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Each parent and child selects a
book from the list below and joins us on the 17th, along with administrators
from Westglades Middle School to breakout in book discussions. A
new set of books will then be assigned for the following HOWL meeting.
