In a world where we’re all surrounded by couples whether they’re married,
engaged, or just dating…we still have those that prefer “The Single
Life”. Companionship in the millennium is becoming less desirable, as
more singles actually enjoy the pleasure of coming and going as they may,
and not having to explain their where abouts to their spouse; but most of
all they enjoy “Variety”.
Singles are the fastest growing population group in our American
Culture. Most of us will spend more of our adult time single than married.
It was determined in 2000, for the first time in the history of the
U.S Census, that single people out numbered married people?
Now if that doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will. Let’s face
it, being single is turning into a rapid and very satisfying destination,
I know I’m making it sound like a vacation…but you must
admit, metaphorically speaking, it’s like being able to travel to
Hawaii, Paris, and the Bahamas; if you had that option of visiting
them all, there is no way you would choose to only visit one.
Preferring to be single enables one to find a “variety” of relationships
without the long-term commitment.
Realistically, being single does have its rewards and
best of all, it’s manageable and brings endless freedom.
It has been said that singles are selfish for pursuing
their life goals and putting their jobs or the
fun they have first before settling down with one
individual and being in a committed relationship.
They’re also known for being lonely, but that’s the
outside looking in, and that’s just my own personal
opinion…but honestly being single does help one
to find one’s self.
More important for singles and especially women, which I know for a
fact, is the big “I”…that’s right you’ve got it! Independence, and let’s not
forget about worth. Independence levels out the “single life”. For one, you
are keeping your mind busy while giving yourself a sense of self-worth.
For a person who is single, keeping engaged in extra curricular activities
such as working out at the gym, playing sports, or just mingling is most
important. Even though singles lack spousal support they tend to still
maintain very satisfying relationships with friends, family, and colleagues.
For instance, my very dear and close friend Michael Esq., who happens to
be a very handsome, successful, and single 36-year-old attorney
enjoys the single life very much and still finds time to spend with
friends, family, and colleagues. And I am a living testimony that
Michael has a broad social network “go figure”(lol) and that
friends, is emotionally, mentally, and psychologically healthy.
Now here’s what you guys knew was coming sooner or
later…“sex.” Yes, unattached singles have the choice of variety
in which they are able to learn from others, and singles
tend to be more adventurous. They can cut their losses
quicker and bail out with a clean sweep if the sex
was not to his/her liking, without hurting anyone.
Being in a loving relationship has its benefits no
doubt, there’s the conversation, intimacy, cuddling,
best of all the gift giving. But the bottom
line is that being single is rejuvenating and teaches
responsibility. Sometimes you have to focus on
loving yourself before you can mentally, emotionally,
physically, and unconditionally share your
space with another.
