GIRL SCOUTS COMMEMORATE 95TH ANNIVERSARY<br />

AND HOST 4TH ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE<br />

In celebration of <strong>the</strong> national 95th anniversary, Girl Scouts of Broward<br />

County will host its annual “Feeding Broward County” Food Drive on<br />

Saturday, March 10, 2007 at <strong>the</strong> BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise.<br />

Girl Scout troops will begin collecting non-perishable foods and paper<br />

products on Feb. 1 for <strong>the</strong> Food Drive. To mark <strong>the</strong> 95th anniversary, <strong>the</strong><br />

girls will collect 95 pounds of food per troop. Then, on March 10, <strong>the</strong><br />

food will be weighed and sorted at <strong>the</strong> BankAtlantic Center for distribution<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Coordinating Council of Broward County’s (CCB) Million<br />

Meals Committee. The CCB works with a countywide network of food<br />

pantries and community outreach programs including Jubilee Center,<br />

Catholic Charities, Kids In Distress, Crossroad Food Bank and <strong>the</strong><br />

Cooperative Feeding Program. These groups, and o<strong>the</strong>rs, depend on<br />

donations to stock <strong>the</strong>ir shelves.<br />

Since 2004 <strong>the</strong> Girl Scouts have made a tremendous impact on hunger<br />

in Broward County, donating more than 49,500 lbs. of food from <strong>the</strong><br />

“Feeding Broward County” drive.<br />

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who<br />

make <strong>the</strong> world a better place. Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc.<br />

has been serving girls and <strong>the</strong>ir families locally since 1935 and last year<br />

served more than 9,000 girls and 4,500 adult volunteers. To learn more<br />
