What was he doing at the time? Lying in a hospital bed? Putting his feet up while relaxing at home? No way! Looking quite dapper and smiling ear-to-ear, he was doing card tricks at our table at Benvenuto’s Restaurant, while waiting for a show to begin. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even know he’d had open-heart surgery until he told me. I was amazed at the speed of his recovery. Did I mention that Sid Marcus is 83 years old? I knew that for many years, he’d been a motivational speaker, spreading his jewels of positive thinking and joie de vivre all over the world. What I now believe, because I saw evidence of his rapid recovery with my own eyes, is that this positive attitude stuff really must work. It didn’t take me long to realize that his story should be shared with our readers, so I asked him to write it. And the timing was perfect, because we were able to publish his column right on page 74 of our Annual Medical and Health issue. To ring in the New Year, in this our first of issue of 2007, we’ve covered health care from every angle. We’ve featured a wealth of articles about body, mind and spirit. You’ll find stories on new medical procedures, exercise and diet, the business and politics of health care, health-related book reviews, and wines that are good for you. We’ve covered the gamut from pre-natals to senior citizens, from working out to sipping chicken soup. And you’ll still see favorites like artwalks, travel, theatre and restaurant reviews, outdoor living, home decor, sports and school news. We’ve also continued our coverage of the upcoming Coral Springs Festival of the Arts, spotlighting two more authors who will be giving free workshops. And wait until you see who’ll be performing at the Festival’s benefit concert at the Coral Springs Center for The Performing Arts. Because the New Year is a time for renewal, we thought our magazine deserved a makeover too. We think that our January issue, with its fresh new format, and loaded with new information on a such a vast variety of topics, is a great way to start the year 2007. We hope you’ll think so too.
