NEW EQUESTRIAN CLUB
AT CORAL SPRINGS
HIGH SCHOOL

organized and formed a new Equestrian Club, affiliated with the
Interscholastic Equestrian Association (http://www.rideiea.com).
The club’s objectives are:
• To promote the equestrian as an athlete.
• To provide students with organized competitive opportunities.
• To introduce new riders to equine sports.
• To generally promote the common interests of safe riding instruction
and competition.
Many are not aware that in 1998, Equestrian was classified as an NCAA
emerging sport (http://www.varsityequestrian.com). Many people within
the horse industry have united together to help advance the sport to full
NCAA championship status. In order to attain this goal and hold a NCAA
Equestrian Championship, there must be 40 Division I/II schools that
sponsor equestrian as a varsity level program. Currently 23 colleges and
universities offer equestrian as a varsity sport and more continue to add the
program each year.
It is the hope of many CSHS Equestrians to some day compete at the
NCAA level, and perhaps even represent the USA in the Olympics. The
team is currently looking for qualified instructors that meet IEA requirements
and sponsors to assist hosting competitions. For more information,
