Tawheed al-Asmaa was-Sifaat(Maintaining the unity of Allah's names and attributes)This category of Tawheed has five main aspects:1. Allah must be referred to according to how He and HisProphet (pbuh) have described Him without explainingaway His names and attributes by giving them newmeanings other than their obvious meanings.2. No new names or attributes can be given to Allah. Forexample, though He has said that He gets angry, Allah maynot be given the name al-Ghaadib (the Angry one), becauseneither Allah nor His messenger has used this name.3. Allah can not be given the attributes of His creation. Forexample, it is claimed in the Bible and Torah that Allahspent the first six days creating the universe then rested onthe seventh. For this reason, Jews and Christians take eitherSaturday or Sunday as a day of rest. Working in these daysis considered as sin. Such a claim, that God also needs totake rest to recuperate after heavy work (naujubillah),assigns to God, the attributes of His creation. It is man whotires after heavy work and needs sleep to recuperate.4. The creation (man) can not be given the attributes of thecreator (Allah). For example, in the New Testament Paultakes the figure of Melchizedek, king of Salem, from theTorah (Genesis 14:18-20) and gives both him and Jesus thedivine attribute of having no beginning or end.5. Maintaining the unity of Allah's names also means thatAllah's names in the definite form cannot be given to Hiscreation unless preceded by the prefix 'Abd meaning "slaveof" or "servant of'. Many of the Divine names in theirindefinite form like Ra'oof and Raheem are allowablenames for men because Allah has used some of them intheir indefinite forms to refer to the Prophet (pbuh).Young Muslims, What they should know about Islam Page - 12
