People are wrong when they claim democracy is notcompatible with Islam. Fifteen hundred years ago, when theworld never heard of the word “Democracy”, all four Khalifas ofIslam were elected democratically.15. Respect for the Chastity of Women: A woman's chastity has tobe respected and protected under all circumstances, whethershe belongs to our own nation or to the nation of an enemy,whether we find her in the wild forest or in a conquered city;whether she is our co-religionist or belongs to some otherreligion or has no religion at all.16. Equality of Human Beings: Islam not only recognizes absoluteequality between men irrespective of any distinction of color,race or nationality, but makes it an important and significantprinciple. A practical demonstration of this absolute equality isseen in our Masajid every day, when all men (and women)stand in line for Salah, shoulder to shoulder, with nodiscrimination based on skin color, race, nationality, wealth orany other worldly attributes.17. The Right to Co-operate and Not to Co-operate: Islam hasprescribed a general principle of paramount importance anduniversal application saying: "Co-operate with one another forvirtue and heedfulness and do not co-operate with one anotherfor the purpose of vice and aggression" (Quran 5:2).
