Anger ManagementForgiving faults and mistakes of others is a great virtue of humancharacter. <strong>The</strong>re is a great reward for this virtue in the next world.Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said, on theDay of Judgment, it will be announced on behalf of Almighty Allah,“Stand up if there is anybody who has due on Allah.” <strong>The</strong>n thosepeople will stand up who have forgiven oppression and repressionof others in this world. (Mustadrak-al Hakim)About the benefit of forgiving faults of others, Allah said: “Repel evil with what is better; thenyou will see that one who was once your enemy has become yourintimate friend (Sura Ha Mim Sajdah 41: 34).On the other hand, restraining and controlling anger is also a greatvirtue of the believers. Allah said regarding virtues of God-fearingpeople: “And those whorestrain their anger and forgive people; Allah loves those who dogood deeds (Sura Ale Imran 3: 134).While interpreting this verse of the Qur’an, Imam Baihaqi, in hisTafseer Ruhul Ma’ani, mentioned an incident involving Ali ibnHussain (RA). One day, his maid was helping him in doing ablutionwith a container of water, but the container accidentally slippedfrom her hands and fell on him. His clothes got wet and it is usual insuch a situation to get angry. <strong>The</strong> maid was afraid of reprisal fromhim and recited the verse (regarding controlling anger).Ali (RA) became quiet and his anger was gone. <strong>The</strong>n the maidrecited other portion of the verse (which says aboutforgiving people). He said I am forgiving you. <strong>The</strong> maid then recitedthe last part of the verse (which says about Allah’s<strong>Young</strong> <strong>Muslims</strong>, What they should know about Islam Page - 95
